Sonia Ivette Morales-Matos, born in 1961, is a distinguished Puerto Rican composer, performer, and educator. Hailing from a family of accomplished musicians, she has carved a unique path in the world of music. Sonia earned her Bachelor of Music degree from Berklee College of Music, specializing in composition and jazz. She furthered her studies at Indiana University in Bloomington, obtaining a Master of Music degree in both Composition and Jazz Studies. During her time there, she studied under renowned professors such as David Baker and Juan Orrego-Salas.

Her compositions span a wide array of styles, including chamber music, choral works, Latin jazz, and orchestral pieces. Sonia's works have been performed by prestigious ensembles like the Puerto Rico Symphony and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Notable compositions include "Tembandumba’s Court Dance" and "Tropical Overture," showcasing her ability to blend cultural influences with contemporary techniques.

Sonia has received numerous accolades, including the Dr. Herman Hudson Alumnus Award from Indiana University and recognitions from the U.S. Congress and the Mexican Consulate for her contributions to music and education. Currently residing in Cincinnati, Ohio, she continues to inspire as a composer, performer, and educator, contributing to the global music community.
