This composition was originally conceived for young voices with the purpose of introducing them to the sound of the Puerto Rican “plena”. The piece is orchestrated for strings while imitating the rhythmic layers of the plena. This genre has become an international sensation that transcends its folk nature to become fused not only with pop and jazz but also is present in the world of classical music. This composition is a joyful piece that gives young players the opportunity to experience the authentic sound of the plena within the string orchestra.
