Sonia Ivette Morales-Matos Honored with JW Pepper Editors’ Choice Selection.

Sonia Ivette Morales-Matos has been named a 2025 First-Time Editors’ Choice Honoree by J.W. Pepper, one of the most respected music publishers in the United States. Her vibrant composition, Fiesta No. 4 for Wind Ensemble and Percussion, was selected as part of this prestigious recognition, which highlights the finest new instrumental works of the year.

Each year, the Editors’ Choice distinction is awarded to a select group of compositions that stand out for their musical excellence, creativity, and impact. Sonia's Fiesta No. 4 was chosen from hundreds of submissions reviewed by J.W. Pepper’s editorial staff, earning the signature red check mark that signals top-tier quality.

Inspired by the rich tapestry of Latin American dance genres, Fiesta No. 4 celebrates the joy, rhythm, and communal spirit of a cultural gathering. With its dynamic percussion and spirited ensemble writing, the piece captures the essence of a lively fiesta—where diverse people come together to share music, movement, and connection.

This recognition marks an exciting milestone in Sonia’s career, affirming her voice as a composer who bridges tradition and innovation. In addition to this honor, Sonia is currently preparing for a composer residency at Towson University, where her new work Canciones de Amor y Soledad will premiere. She is also collaborating with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra on a video for their Young People’s Concert series, following the premiere of her symphonic piece, El Niño, earlier this year.
